OUR STORY

Sunrise started in 2007 as Dr. Jeffrey Bill’s private practice, where he provided Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT). After several years, he became determined to build his practice into a proper treatment program that would provide the psychosocial support he knew was needed for achieving the treatment outcomes of which he believed medication assisted treatment was capable.

In April of 2012, Steven Smith (former COO) joined Sunrise and developed it into an Outpatient Alcohol and Drug Addiction Program.  This was quickly followed by initiating the acceptance of Ohio Medicaid for payment for services. In the summer of 2013, Sunrise transitioned to Ohio’s first buprenorphine-only Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). This allowed increased access to services and a more comprehensive approach to treatment.

In July 2015, Sunrise opened an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), adding an additional level of care. This allowed for continuing treatment with patients who were not a good fit or appropriate for non-intensive outpatient treatment. In the years since, Sunrise has continued to grow, not only by adding more service lines (i.e. moderate and high-complexity urine toxicology lab services, mental health therapy and medication management, general transitional medical care, trauma informed care, ambulatory care, partial hospitalization, and recovery housing), but also by building new locations and acquiring other programs. Sunrise will continue to expand to give communities quality evidence-based care in the fight against addiction.
